Senior Golden Retriever Starts “Aging Backwards” When Family Welcomes New Puppy
As dogs get older, they start to slow down a considerable amount. Even considering that, when Natalie Hackler’s 12-year-old dog started losing her energy, she became a bit concerned. After a bit of digging, she learned that, sometimes, elderly dogs benefit from having a puppy around. Hopeful that a puppy was exactly what this senior golden retriever needed, Natalie welcomed a puppy into their home.
The positive impact this had on Ally was as undeniable as it was immediate. According to Natalie, “it felt like she instantly accepted him as part of the family.” Now, the two couldn’t love each other more. Catch a tear-jerking glimpse at their new lives together in the video below!

Senior Golden Retriever Gets a New Lease on Life Thanks to Her Family’s New Puppy
“She literally did not stop smiling a minute after she got her puppy!” someone writes in reply to this heartwarming video. Others add, “She immediately started aging backwards” and “We did the same thing but the puppy decided to follow the other’s example and now I have them both acting like old dogs.”
Every dog is different, so not all of them will benefit from a puppy pal. But for those who would, the results can be life-changing. For example, Ally is playing with toys she hasn’t touched in years — and it’s all thanks to Beau.

“[Ally] has taken on a mother role by showing him how to ‘dog’ and has been loving having a playmate at home,” Natalie says, adding that Beau also “loves having a big sister to play, lay, and nap with,” noting that their favorite activities include “napping side by side, playing in the yard, going to the lake every weekend, and going on little adventures together, especially when there’s a treat involved.”
