Amazon test-marketed its Amazon Fresh grocery delivery concept in a few cities in 2024. Following a positive customer response, the service is now available in more than 1,000 cities and towns. By the end of 2025, Amazon Fresh hopes to be in more than 2,300 locations nationwide, according to a news release. The best part is that Amazon Prime members can use the service for free on orders of $25 or more. Orders under the threshold charge a $2.99 fee for same-day Amazon Fresh delivery. Those wanting a delivery, but who don’t have a Prime membership, will see a $12.99 fee, regardless of order size. “We’re continuously innovating to make grocery shopping simpler, faster, and more affordable for our customers, especially Prime members,” Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said in a release. They can order milk alongside electronics; oranges, apples, and potatoes with a mystery novel; and frozen pizza at the same time as tools for their next home improvement project—and check out with one cart and have everything delivered to their doorstep within hours,” Doug Herrington added. Neil Saunders, managing director and retail analyst at GlobalData Retail, told CNN that Amazon Fresh is a very smart business move and the expansion will “almost certainly expand Amazon’s market share in food.” Neil thinks Amazon Fresh just makes sense. “As Amazon already has a lot of the logistical infrastructure in place, it should be able to grow profitably, which is something other online grocers have struggled to do,” he told CNN.
