President Trump Calls For World Series Champion To Be Inducted Into National Baseball Hall Of Fame
President Trump called for seven-time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series champion Roger Clemens to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
“Roger Clemens was easily one of the few Greatest Pitchers of All Time, winning 354 Games, the Cy Young Award seven times (A Record, by a lot!), and played in six World Series, winning two! He was second to Nolan Ryan in most strike-outs, and he should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame, NOW!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“People think he took drugs, but nothing was proven. He never tested positive, and Roger, from the very beginning, totally denies it. He was just as great before those erroneous charges were leveled at him. That rumor has gone on for years, and there has been no evidence whatsoever that he was a ‘druggie.’ This is going to be like Pete Rose where, after over 4,000 Hits, they wouldn’t put him in the Hall of Fame until I spoke to the Commissioner, and he promised to do so, but it was essentially a promise not kept because he only ‘opened it up’ when Pete died and, even then, he said that Pete Rose only got into the mix because of DEATH,” he added.

Clemens was named in 2007’s explosive Mitchell Report, accused of being injected with a steroid multiple times during the peak of his career. Clemens has routinely denied the accusations and was in 2010 indicted of making false statements to Congress, but in 2012 the former Astros star was found not guilty of perjury.
The messiness of the Mitchell Report and subsequent allegations have helped to keep Clemens out of the Hall of Fame, despite the fact that The Rocket could stake claim to the title of “greatest pitcher in baseball history.” In his final year of eligibility, 2022, Clemens received 65.2 percent support from Hall voters, short of the 75 percent necessary for induction.
“Wonderful time yesterday at Trump National DC with @POTUS and my son Kacy,” Clemens said.
“I appreciate the love! DT knows more than anyone the fake news that’s out there. Everyone has their agendas… I played the game to change my family’s direction generationally and to WIN!” he added.

USA TODAY noted:
Sunday’s statement – like previous Trump remarks on the topic – includes a fundamental misunderstanding of the Baseball Hall of Fame process. While the president demanded that MLB “put (Clemens) in NOW,” the Hall of Fame conducts voting with the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and the league or commissioner have no authority to unilaterally add players.
And unlike Rose – who never appeared on a Hall of Fame ballot – Clemens had his chance to be voted in, making 10 appearances on the BBWAA ballot from 2013-2022 after retiring but never reached the 75% threshold for induction.
