Braxton Keith Abruptly Ends Show & Walks Off After Fans Continuously Throw Beer Towards The Stage
Over it…
Braxton Keith has always been one to let his feelings on rowdy concert-goers be known. Famously calling out the crowd back in April at a show in Gilmer, Texas, after getting beer thrown at him, the “Cozy” singer found himself at odds with Gavin Adcock after he said:
“I didn’t come here to get beer cans thrown at me, alright? This isn’t a goddamn Gavin Adcock concert, okay? Don’t be throwing f***ing beers out here. These people at the front are gettin’ wet up here and it’s gonna piss them off and it’s gonna piss me off… I just want to get myself clear. I’m not Gavin Adcock, okay. I’m Braxton mother****ing Keith, okay?”
Flash forward to this past weekend and Keith was headlining Heritage Hall in Ardmore, Oklahoma, alongside openers Mitchell Ferguson and Caden Gillard. Though the show got off to a good start with the Texas native performing popular tracks such as “Chase You Down,” “Bye In A Goodbye” and “Baby You Do,” the concert quickly devolved into a beer-throwing contest, according to Keith.
Though there aren’t any videos of Keith and the band getting beer thrown at them online at the moment, many fans in attendance noted it was quite frequent throughout the show. This led the “Under Them Neons” singer to outright stop the show and walk off the stage mid-concert. Before leaving the stage, he said:
“Y’all, I know most of y’all are behaving yourselves tonight. But there’s a bunch of people up here that are having a good time, and then there’s a bunch of beer-throwing. I don’t come to y’all’s jobs and do anything like that to y’all. So until y’all can learn some concert etiquette, my name is Braxton Keith. Thank y’all for coming out to Ardmore, Oklahoma, tonight.”
He then unstrapped his guitar and abruptly left the stage along with his band, ending the show outright.
Fans online were quick to point out the fact that Keith (or the venue) could have easily had the rowdy attendees thrown out instead of stopping the show for the rest of the crowd:
“How about the venue kick out the people throwing beer instead of punishing the whole crowd who spent their hard earned money to see your show.”
“Isn’t that what security gets paid to take care of? ‘I don’t come to your job’, they paid you very well to watch you perform, that’s a privilege.”
“Why couldn’t he just have stopped the show and have security escort those people out?? a lot of innocent people losing their hard earned money and time over his just leaving like that”
“Bad move… simply get the establishment to remove the a**holes and give the others what they came for and PAID for or return their [money]! Bro… u ain’t Hank Jr or Strait or Garth or Jackson… walking out is a bad move.”
Others, on the other hand, defended Keith’s move, praising him and noting that fellow artists such as the aforementioned Adcock and Treaty Oak Revival have “ruined” concert etiquette due to their encouragement of beer-throwing.
“Gavin Adcock and Treaty Oak Revival ruined concert etiquette”
“He’s not wrong. The Gavin Adcock concert mentality only goes at Gavin’s shows. Other artists aren’t going to put up with that.”
“More artists should be doing this, maybe then people will STOP throwing things on stage.”
“Concert etiquette has been lost. The performers are the only ones the crowd will listen to. he did the right thing.”
As many pointed out, is it a bit drastic to fully cancel the show and walk off? Sure. With that being said, however, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that concert etiquette has all but gone down the drain over the past few years. From Morgan Wallen recently getting grabbed by a fan at his Seattle concert to Megan Moroney having to dodge a hat flying towards her head at a show last year, it seems as if every week, artists are having to put up with some outright ridiculous behavior from fans.
Though it might not be ideal, outright walking off stage and canceling shows due to poor behavior might be one of the only options artists have left to permanently fix these issues.
