This is truly disgusting. The mayor of Minneapolis called out Christians who were offering prayers for the victims of the Annunciation Catholic Church, which left 17 injured and two dead. During a press conference held shortly after the shooting took place, Democratic mayor Jacob Frey stated that thoughts and prayers are not a sufficient response to the shooting. People reported more details on the mayor’s remarks: The mayor of Minneapolis, where a gunman opened fire at a Catholic church on Wednesday, killing at least two children and injuring 17 other people during morning Mass, said “thoughts and prayers” were not a sufficient response to the mass shooting. “These were American families, and the amount of pain that they are suffering right now is extraordinary,” Frey said at a news conference near Annunciation Catholic Church in South Minneapolis, where the shooting occurred. “Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying.” The deceased children were aged 8 and 10. Of the 17 people injured, 14 are children, two of whom are in critical condition, officials said. Hennepin Healthcare is treating two adults and nine children between the ages of 6 and 14, said emergency medicine chair Dr. Thomas Wyatt. The church has a school for children from prekindergarten through eighth grade. Frey noted that the school year had just begun this week. The students were celebrating their first Mass of the new school year at the church on Wednesday morning when the gunman fired a rifle through its windows at the children sitting in the church pews, striking children and worshippers, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said. Dozens of children attended the Mass, O’Hara said. The gunman, believed to be in his early 20s, also fired a shotgun and a pistol, O’Hara said. O’Hara did not release the name of the gunman, who ultimately took his own life, or whether he had any ties to the church. “This was a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshiping,” O’Hara said. The gunman offered similar language on his gun and wrote, “Where is your God now?” https://x.com/BenVerbanicTV/status/1960834426302022037 According to the New York Post, the mayor later called out conservatives who were pointing out that the shooter was reportedly transgender: Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey preached about trans rights during a presser on the mass shooting that left two children dead at Annunciation Catholic School, hours after it was revealed gunman Robin Westman identified as a transgender woman. “I have heard about a whole lot of hate that’s being directed at our trans community,” Frey told reporters at an update presser Wednesday afternoon. “Anybody who is using this … as an opportunity to villainize our trans community, or any other community out there, has lost their sense of common humanity. We should not be operating out of a place of hate for anyone,” the mayor said. Frey stated emotionally that instead of the shooter’s gender-identity and state of mind, public focus should be put on the child victims —- and then he segued into calls for gun control. “Look, we need to be doing more than talking. It can’t just be words there needs to be action. When we have seen school shooting after school shooting. When we have seen church shootings by horrible actors,” Frey pontificated. “To recognize that we’ve got more guns in this country than we have people. And it’s on all of us to recognize that we can’t just say that this shouldn’t happen again and then allowed to happen again and again beyond that,” Frey intoned. What do you?
