Sierra Ferrell Previews New Tune, “Dusty Foot,” & I Need It Immediately

Inject this into my veins. Fans are getting a taste of the next chapter of music from the Appalachian fairy, Sierra Ferrell. Since the release of her sophomore record, Trail of Flowers, the four-time Grammy Award-winning artist continued to blow fans out of the water. The entire record is a unique blend of country, folk, bluegrass, jazz, and blues, creating the enticing and completely original sound for which Ferrell is known. Many of the lyrics Ferrell sings on the album reveal the vulnerable side of life on the road, as she tries to balance romantic relationships and tales of folklore she has created in her mind. Fans had to wait for a minute after the release of her debut record, with three years spanning between the release of the two albums, truly making her second studio project a Long Time Coming. Because Ferrell likes to take her time crafting her records paired with her hefty touring schedule, I was anticipating another long waiting period between Ferrell’s next project, but that might not be the case this time. This year, Ferrell has already given fans a new tune, teaming up with Nikki Lane for an incredible “A Lesson In Leavin’” cover. It appears that she’s also working on some new originals. During a recent show in Montana, Ferrell and her stellar band previewed a brand-new song for the crowd. The song titled “Dusty Foot” highlights the tale of a woman who feels like she’s losing her partner, feeling hurt, and like she is seeing the demise of her relationship occurring in front of her eyes. But when she sees this man after a period of hurting, the two reconcile, making love, and begin patching up their issues. The point of view swaps between lovers, sharing the sweet way this man views his woman after this rough period, and he admires her beauty before “one thing leads to another, you’re kickin up dust on a hardwood floor.” “You put one foot in front of the other That’s the way it always goes One thing leads to another You’re kickin’ up dust on a hardwood floor Take the hand of an old-time lover You’ve never been good at closing doors One thing leads to another You’re kickin’ up dust on a hardwood floor…” @emilyhewitt00♬ original sound – emily It’s no surprise that an artist will often begin playing a song live long before it’s set for release, to gauge the reaction from fans and see how receptive they are. However, it appears that this will be the next single from Ferrell, as she has also begun teasing “Dusty Foot” online, which typically indicates it’s coming sooner rather than later.
