During today’s press conference in the Oval Office, President Trump committed to deploying the National Guard to Chicago. He did not provide a time-frame for when that will happen, but he did go after Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker for refusing federal help to stop the violent crime plaguing his city. Despite Pritzker’s refusal to swallow his ego and ask for assistance, President Trump says, “We’re going to do it anyway. President Trump’s vow to send in the National Guard to make Chicago safe again comes after a bloody Labor Day weekend that resulted in multiple homicides. From ABC News: At least 58 people have been shot, eight fatally, across Chicago over Labor Day weekend, including a drive-by attack that left seven victims wounded, according to police. The violent holiday weekend came as President Donald Trump renewed threats to send federal agents and National Guard troops to Chicago over the objections of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. Earlier this morning, President Trump also promised to “solve the crime problem fast” in Chicago in a post on Truth Social: At least 54 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, 8 people were killed. The last two weekends were similar. Chicago is the worst and most dangerous city in the World, by far. Pritzker needs help badly, he just doesn’t know it yet. I will solve the crime problem fast, just like I did in DC. Chicago will be safe again, and soon. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Just like in D.C., the streets of Chicago will soon be remedied of crime and homelessness. And, then President Trump will move on to New York City or San Francisco, and on and on.
