President Trump Announces Next City He Will Send National Guard – “We’re Going To Clean It Up”

President Trump announced he will be sending National Guard troops to New Orleans to crack down on crime and make the city safe. “We’re going to come into New Orleans, and we’re going to make that place so safe,” Trump said at an event Friday night. “It’s got a little problem right now, a couple of headaches, like murders, a lot of little murders going on, and we’re not going to stand for it. And we’re going to come in, we’re going to clean it up,” he continued. Trump said within two weeks it will be the “safest place.” Check it out: During a dinner with members of Congress at the Rose Garden tonight, President Trump again discussed bringing the National Guard to New Orleans. pic.twitter.com/z8JadZoQfG — Fix New Orleans (@FixNOLA) September 6, 2025 The Hill has more: Illinois Democrats have been vocal about their lack of support for a federal crime crackdown in Chicago, with Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) warning the president not to do so and calling his plans “an insult.” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) has echoed similar sentiments and established the “Protecting Chicago Initiative” to protect the constitutional rights of Chicago residents. New Orleans also has a Democratic mayor, but the state of Louisiana is run by Republican Gov. Jeff Landry, who has previously blamed Louisiana crime on progressive policies. Trump discussed earlier this week about sending the National Guard into either Chicago or New Orleans. “So we’re making a determination now, do we go to Chicago, or do we go to a place like New Orleans where we have a great governor, Jeff Landry, who wants us to come in and straighten out a very nice section of this country that’s become quite tough, quite bad,” Trump said. “So we’re gonna be going to maybe Louisiana, and you have New Orleans, which has a crime problem,” he added. Violent crimes are trending downward in New Orleans over the past year with homicides down about 27%, a 15% decrease in reported rapes and a 16.5% drop in robberies, according to data from the Major Cities Chiefs Association, a national organization of police chiefs. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, a Democrat who was indicted last month over allegations of trying to hide her relationship with her bodyguard, did not immediately turn down Trump’s proposal or comment directly beyond the city’s statement.
