Oddly Mesmerizing: Time-Lapse Shows Tiny Backyard Creek Undergoing Flash Flood
Depending on where you live, a flash flood warning may not matter much. But for folks who live near creeks and rivers, it can be a bit more concerning. Thankfully, a flash flood isn’t always dangerous. Under the right conditions, and with the use of a camera, they can even be mesmerizing. A Georgia resident realized this for themselves, inspiring them to share a time-lapse of the flash flood in their backyard.
Just behind this resident’s backyard is a small creek. Sure, there’s a bit of grass and a chain-link fence separating the creek from the backyard, but that doesn’t mean much when there’s a flood. Luckily, this flood in particular began to lower just in the nick of time… see for yourself in the stunning video below!

“Oh, I can’t do that, they’d get mad,” a commenter speaking as the creek humorously shares. Others add, “I’m just thinking about it, I’m not going to do it” and “It’s just trying to breathe, leave it alone.”
Georgia Resident Manages to Capture Stunning Time-Lapse Footage of a Flash Flood in their Backyard
You may be wondering, “How can a flash flood be turned into a time-lapse when they happen so quickly?” The answer lies in how we define this type of flood. According to the National Weather Service, it’s flooding that “begins within six hours, and often within three hours, of the heavy rainfall.”
Another example comes from Vegas…

While taking down part of the fence may seem counterintuitive, these residents know what they’re doing. You see, so much debris had piled up at the gate, the flow of water was getting blocked. That’s why you see the man in the video tossing so much garbage out of the way.
While these flash floods are relatively tame, there are others that cause quite a scene. For example, torrential rains in Indiana caused a temporary waterfall over a road!
