In what can only be described as a tragedy, Alabama native and country singer Drake White and his wife, Alex, are mourning the loss of their newborn daughter, Della, who passed away shortly after birth on August 31st. Della, who was born at only 29 weeks, weighed three pounds, three-and-a-half ounces when she was born. According to the couple, she was born at 8:52 a.m. on August 31st before “peacefully” passing away at 9:12 a.m. Yesterday, Drake and Alex made a joint Instagram post sharing the tragic news, accompanied by a photo of the Bible verse, Psalm 34:18, which reads: “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Alex Mize White (@alexm_white) In the caption, the couple expressed their heartbreak, thanking God for the brief moments they got to spend with Della before her passing: “On Sunday, August 31st our precious daughter, Della Elizabeth White, went peacefully to be with Jesus. We are so thankful for the holy moments God gave us with her. The Lord has been so near and close to us during this difficult time. He has held us up and sustained us through it all. We are heartbroken and soul tired, but we know we will get through this difficult time with the strength, peace, and joy that only our Heavenly Father can provide. May Della be held in the arms of Jesus until we see her again someday. They would also share an additional passage in the caption, citing Psalm 31:10, 14-15: “I am dying from my grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Misery has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within. But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, “You are my God!” My future is in your hands.” Fellow country stars such as Whiskey Myers, Jessie James Decker, Lauren Alaina, Chase Rice, Raelynn, Terri Clark and Coy Bowles of Zac Brown Band all took to the comment section to offer up prayers and support for the couple: “Praying for y’all” – Whiskey Myers “I am so sorry. Love you guys.” – Coy Bowles It should go without saying that a loss like this is simply unimaginably devastating. As Clark said, no one should go through the loss of a child, much less a newborn. Drake and Alex also are parents to their two-year-old son, William Hawk, making the loss even more devastating. White, who is known for songs such as “Makin’ Me Look Good Again,” “Livin’ the Dream” and “Power of a Woman,” was scheduled to open up for Riley Green on his Damn Country Music Tour this November.
