The Astronaut Trailer: Reason 3,197 to Never Go to Space

News The Astronaut The Astronaut Trailer: Reason 3,197 to Never Go to Space What if someone went to space and came back with cool superpowers? Have we tried that yet? By Molly Templeton | Published on September 26, 2025 Screenshot: Vertical Comment 0 Share New Share Screenshot: Vertical Nothing good happens in space these days. Nothing. What I wouldn’t give for a nice adventuresome space movie without quite so many terrible deaths and creepy planets. The Astronaut is not that movie. The Astronaut raises a lot of questions for me, for instance, if you had just been to space alone, would you want to be left alone in a giant, isolated house in the woods? I’m going with no. But I am not The Astronaut. Said film stars Kate Mara (Fantastic Four, 2015 edition) as Sam, an astronaut who returns from space and then has everything in her life—and body, apparently—go totally haywire. For Reasons, very Scientific Reasons, a general played by Laurence Fishburne “places her in quarantine for rehabilitation and testing.” But then also she goes to the aforementioned giant house in the woods, in which she is clearly not in quarantine because people keep talking to her face-to-face (including The 100’s Ivana Milicevic, who I am always glad to see). The cast for this movie is kind of fantastic; Gabriel Luna is also here as a loving husband (a role in which he absolutely excels on The Last of Us), and Macy Gray plays Sam’s bestie Val. The Astronaut is written and directed by Jess Varley, who also directed some segments of the film Phobias. Varley is also an actress with roles in Colony and Night Shift. Go to space—cinematically speaking—on October 17th.[end-mark] The post The Astronaut Trailer: Reason 3,197 to Never Go to Space appeared first on Reactor.
