Morgan Wallen Walks Away Bloody, But Better, In New Music Video For “I Got Better”
His favorite song got the full music video treatment.
Just a few weeks ago, Morgan Wallen teased a little project on his social media accounts with the following rugged, scraped up look photo of himself that had the ladies in a frenzy:
And today, he released the music video for “I Got Better,” which was included on his mega hit 37-song fourth studio album, I’m The Problem. He’s spoken before about how it’s his personal favorite on the album, so it makes sense he wanted to put out a full music video for it.
There were 49 songwriters on the record (Morgan co-wrote 22 of the songs), though “I Got Better” is obviously very personal, as he says it completely represents his life right now:
“‘I got better since you got gone’ would be how I feel right now. I’d say that’s one that really came from my heart, and it can mean many things. It’s not just a song to a girl, it could be a song to anything that’s holding you back. That’s why I like that song so much, for a long time I had a lot of things holding me back.
I’ve finally said goodbye to a lot of those things, and I’m proud of the results that have come from doing that. So, I’d say ‘I Got Better’ is my most personal song right now.”
Of course, I think we’ve all seen plenty of the headlines about Morgan’s personal life over the years, and obviously last year when he was arrested for the chair-throwing incident at Chief’s, and this song does reflect on moving past certain things in life that hold him back. In this song, it’s a girl, but it’s representative of larger, deeper changes in his life.
Written by Morgan along with Blake Pendergrass, Chase McGill, Ryan Vojtesak, Ernest and Hardy, I think it has a catchy melody and some of the better production on the album (not any of those 808’s he loves to use), and the video uses a car accident as a metaphor for the wreckage of a relationship.
You see Morgan literally walking away from the crash, and figuratively leaving behind the girl he was so in love with who actually made his life a whole lot worse, which he can see no looking back on it. We’ve all been there before, haven’t we? You also see his cuts and scrapes from the accident healing on the outside, reflecting how he is also healing on the inside.
It’s not the most complex or flashy video he’s ever done, but it’s an interesting interpretation that definitely reflects the true meaning of the song in an artistic and different way. Plus, like I said, the girls love seeing him all scraped up and bloody, so I’m sure most of them will watch it just for that…
