The movie, which is an adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s 1962 novel and also boasts a script from the author, starred Jason Robards, Jonathan Pryce, Diane Ladd, and Pam Grier. In it, a fantastical, malevolent carnival run by Pryce’s Mr. Dark comes to town, and two schoolboys work to save their town from his evil machinations. Bradbury’s original work clearly influenced the work of many horror writers, including Stephen King, and perhaps other creators as well. The movie version, however, has been hard to find of late, though Disney did put out a Blu-ray of it in 2021. Since October 3, however, anyone with a Disney+ subscription has been able to stream it for themselves at their leisure. It’s availability on the platform is something of a surprise: Many considered the film “lost” to the public if you weren’t one of the people who bought a Blu-ray four years ago when it was briefly available. It’s also interesting that Disney apparently just put the movie up on their streaming platform without fanfare, leaving it to subscribers to stumble across when looking for something spooky to watch this October.   Head over to Disney+ if you’re a subscriber yourself, and give it watch.
