Long John Silvers is Making An Absolutely Wild Move
Since 1969, Long John Silver’s has been serving up delicious fish, shrimp, and all the fixings. But you might not know that the brand also makes fantastic fried chicken. We’ve seen a lot of rebranding attempts recently, most famously Cracker Barrel’s flop, but Long John Silver’s plans to spruce up its logo and give true fans what they love—chicken.
“Guests have been telling us for years that our chicken is a best-kept secret,” Christopher Caudill, Long John Silver’s senior vice president of marketing and innovation, shared in a news release. “Our hand-battered chicken strips—known as Chicken Planks®—are every bit as crave-worthy as our legendary fish. It’s time we let that secret out.”

We Didn’t Even Know Long John Silver’s Had Fish
Long John Silver’s has successfully tested several chicken recipes at its new flagship location in Louisville, Kentucky, and the results are a hit with customers. Those who didn’t know about the brand’s chicken can’t get enough.
“This brand was built on making the coastal experience accessible to everyone, so seafood will always be part of our DNA,” Caudill explained. “But chicken is also part of our heritage—and a big part of our future—so it deserves its rightful place on our logo, our menu, and our guests’ tables.”
Don’t worry, the famous fish isn’t going anywhere. Fans can still get the hand-battered shrimp and wild-caught Alaskan fish they crave.
The restaurant’s sudden shift shocked some people on social media.
“Not sure what to make of this. Anyway Long John Silver’s is putting a chicken on its logo to highlight its chicken offerings. Not sure if this is a permanent change or just some marketing gimmick. But it’s tough to be a seafood chain so you get things like this,” someone wrote on X.
“Long John Silver’s rebrand puts chicken front and center. After decades selling fish that tasted like chicken, they finally gave in… chicken of the sea, literally,” another person shared on X.
Chicken is hot right now, just ask Taco Bell, which recently added more chicken to its menu. This is going to be one to watch. We hope it works out better for them than it did for old Uncle Herschel.
