Eric Church Reveals The One Song His Wife Does NOT Want Dedicated To Her – “She Goes… ‘What The **** Is Wrong With You?'”

Can’t even blame her. If there’s one thing about Eric Church’s legendary discography, it’s the simple fact that he has a song for just about everything. If you want some murder ballads, turn up “Lightning” and “Knives Of New Orleans.” If you’re looking for some drinking songs, grab a beer and play “Drink In My Hand” and “Drowning Man.” Breakup songs? Look no further than “Over When It’s Over” and “Where She Told Me To Go.” Love songs? Crank the dial up on “Love Your Love The Most” and “You Make It Look So Easy.” Simply put, the Chief has a song for just about every mood you can ever imagine, and that’s one of the many reasons why we love him. With well over 100 songs in his official discography, along with a number of unreleased tunes that are available online today, one would think that Church wouldn’t make the mistake of jumping the gun and dedicating one of his most edgy songs in his discography to his wife, Katherine Blasingame. However, that’s exactly what he did at a past show. During his recent stop in Grand Rapids, Michigan, over the weekend, Church performed the entirety of his new album, Evangeline Vs. the Machine, before diving into past hits such as “Springsteen,” “Drink In My Hand” and “Smoke a Little Smoke” along with a killer cover of The Band’s “Ophelia” with opener, Marcus King. With the night beginning to come to a close, Church paused the concert to tell a hilarious story involving his wife. As Church recalls, he got caught up in the moment at a past show and wanted to dedicate his next song on the setlist to her. Given that the main point was to thank her for her support throughout his career, you’d think he’d perform the aforementioned “Love Your Love The Most” or even the likes of “You Make It Look So Easy,” “Bright Side Girl” and “A Man Who Was Gonna Die Young.” This was not the case, however. “I was kind of caught up in the moment of the show, and I wanted to call them out and talk about how important this journey has been for me. And I happened to call them out and talk about that before the next song that I’m about to play you. The first few lines of this song are: ‘It ain’t a needle in a vein. It ain’t backstage sex. It ain’t lines of cocaine on a private jet.'” Of course, the song was none other than Church’s 2014 deepcut off of The Outsiders, “That’s Damn Rock & Roll,” a track centered around pushing back on the commercialization and glamorization of rock as a genre and celebrating its anti-establishment nature. Though the song itself is not celebrating the incredibly attention-grabbing mentions of heroin, cocaine and backstage sex in the first verse, I could definitely see why Katherine wasn’t too happy to have “That’s Damn Rock & Roll” as the one track dedicated to her during the show. And, as Church recalls, she let him have it a little after the show, promptly asking what was wrong with him after he walked off stage. “I walk off stage, and my wife goes, ‘What the f*** is wrong with you?’  She goes, ‘There’s 30 songs you could have dedicated to me, but those first three lines alone… that’s f***** up.’ So I’ve played this song every show since.” Though it’s unknown exactly when this story took place, the “Springsteen” singer has certainly kept it in heavy rotation over the years, performing it each and every year at least once in concert since its release in 2014. Either way, it’s another hilarious story from Church and one of the many reasons he’s such an adored performer to many.
