On Saturday evening, Santos shared a lengthy statement, expressing gratitude to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and President Trump — in that order! — for his release.
He also said that he wants to dedicate the rest of his life to doing good and prison reform.

Yesterday, I was given something I never thought I’d have again: a true second chance at life. A chance to grow, to change, and to walk a better path.
First and foremost, I want to thank our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for never abandoning me. I’m far from perfect. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve stumbled, but I never lost faith in Him. His grace carried me when I couldn’t carry myself, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
I also want to express my deepest gratitude to President Donald J. Trump. Earlier today, I had the honor of speaking with him personally, a conversation I will never forget. In that moment, I saw not only the strength of a great leader, but the heart of a man who believes in mercy, in redemption, and in the promise that America gives everyone, the promise of a second chance.
His kindness, his humanity, and his generosity toward my family and me touched me deeply. President Trump reminded me that in this country we love so much, no mistake, no hardship, and no fall from grace can take away the possibility of renewal. His faith in second chances reignited my own, and for that, I will be forever thankful.
To my friends who stood by me through it all and fought for me when I couldn’t, thank you. Your support, your prayers, and your Advocacy for me mean more than I can ever express. I won’t name names because I’d hate to leave anyone out, but please know that your kindness will stay with me for the rest of my life and I can now truly say that you can make friends whom are real in DC.
I also want to make one thing clear: I hold no anger toward anyone, not even my critics. I move forward with humility, with gratitude, and with peace in my heart. Life is too short to waste on bitterness or vengeance. There will be no revenge, no retribution. We are all Americans, and at the end of the day, we all want the same thing, a better, fairer country for everyone.
Inspired by President Trump’s work toward peace in the Middle East, I am dedicating myself to doing good, to building bridges instead of walls. My focus will be on prison reform and accountability, ensuring that those in power uphold the dignity and humanity of every person in their care. No one should ever be dehumanized or degraded like I was by the FCI Fariton Warden Kelly and Assistant Warden Nobile.
As I step into this next chapter of my life, I do so with lessons learned and eyes open. I do not carry shame, I carry purpose. My goal now is to turn my past into something meaningful, to help create a justice system that truly believes in rehabilitation and second chances.
Yes, I am back but I am back as a new man, ready to work and do good.
George Santos was released from prison in New Jersey late last night.
Reportedly, he learned that his sentence was commuted when he saw the news on TV in prison.
New York Daily News reported:
The New York Republican “was on a computer when inmates started yelling ‘Hey … you’re on TV,’” according to Long Island’s South Shore Press, for whom Santos wrote multiple essays during his brief time behind bars.
“Santos ignored it, since he’s on the news all the time,” the outlet reported Saturday. “Thirty minutes later, he read the crawl at the bottom of the screen: ‘Santos Sentence Commuted.’”
Less than five hours later, Santos was a free man, walking out of FCI Fairton in New Jersey, to his waiting family outside. Joseph Murray, one of his attorneys, confirmed he was released around 11 p.m.
According to his lawyer, Santos needs time to decompress from his stay in prison, where he was kept largely in solitary confinement, before returning to public life.
From The New York Post:
Disgraced former Rep. George Santos (R-NY) is “decompressing” from the “traumatic experience” of spending less than three months behind bars one day after President Trump commuted his 87-month prison sentence for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, his lawyer told The Post Saturday.
“Now is not a good time, I just got here, I’m meeting with him and we just want to let him decompress a little bit,” Joseph Murray said over the phone, and declined to provide any more information about the convicted felon’s current whereabouts.
“He was released last night. Let’s give him – let’s respect his and his family’s privacy and let them decompress a little. It’s a traumatic experience as you can imagine,” Murray, of Long Island, continued before hanging up the call.
Santos, 37, served just 84 days of the seven-year- and three-month-long prison sentence handed down by a federal judge in April on the white collar crime charges.
The ex-GOP Long Island rep echoed that it was “not a good time” before immediately hanging up the phone when The Post reached him Saturday.
He was released from FCI Fairton, a medium-security prison in Fairfield Township, New Jersey, at around 11 p.m. Friday – just five hours after Trump announced the commutation of his sentence on Truth Social, claiming Santos’ unlawful conduct was not nearly as bad as the fibs of Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.).
Welcome back, George!
As President Trump said, ‘have a great life!’
