The Hague Weighs In On Israel’s War Crimes While the US Ignores Them
Why is President Trump still threatening Hamas with war while touting the merits of his peace deal? Why didn’t he threaten Israel when they violated the ceasefire and killed at least 80 people since Friday?
The New York Times reports that senior Trump officials are “increasingly concerned” that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will “dismantle” the peace deal and yet there is no strong talk like this from the White House. Vice President J.D. Vance will be in Israel this week, presumably to keep the peace deal in place.
Meanwhile, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will deliver its opinion on Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territory on Wednesday. The ruling is expected to address whether Israel’s conduct, including its blockade, settlement expansion, and recent military actions, violates international law.
Israel will undoubtedly condemn it as antisemitism and say that only Hamas should be condemned. But should Israel get away with systematically dismantling civilian infrastructure and food sources? Shooting children in the head and chest? Soldiers who practice what is called “patterns of aim”? Doctors who worked in Gaza report that they began to recognize days where most incoming children had the same type of wound — first to the limbs, later to the torso or head — as if someone was “training” or “testing accuracy.”
U.S. leaders will pretend that they don’t know that while the Vice President visits Israel this week.
