If you read national political news, you’re likely aware that Politico Magazine recently unearthed some … less-than-perfectly-pleasant … text messages exchanged among leaders of National Young Republican clubs. If you read The Arizona Republic, you’re likely aware that this small set of “Republican leaders” included two Arizonans ― Luke Mosiman and Rachel Hope (who also goes by Rachel Vaillancourt). Because there’s seemingly always an Arizona connection to these colorful stories. More interesting to me than the fact that there are still racists, sexists, Jew haters, or those cavalier about sexual violence (duh), is the response to the story by Arizona GOP leaders and what it shows about the evolving direction of the party.
