Ella Langley Releases Made-For-TV Song “This Version Of Us,” From Hit Netflix Series ‘Nobody Wants This’

Country music showed out. Today, the new season of Nobody Wants This is out on Netflix, and the show features a 19-track record of all-new original songs, featuring artists across all genres, and three of country music’s best made the cut, including Ella Langley, Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves. Ella’s song is a cinematic ballad called “This Version of Us,” which was written by Ella along with Jordan Schmidt, Jon Nite and Zach Kale, and finds her holding onto hope that this dysfunctional relationship, which only works when both parties are drinking, can somehow survive if they stay the same people, and no one tries to grow or move on to bigger and better things. The plot of the show is actually based on a true story, and it became a quick success as fans were captivated by the unconventional love story. The show earned three Emmy nominations, including for outstanding comedy series. Simon Tikhman, co-founder and CEO of music company The Core Entertainment, assembled the soundtrack with Interscope Records, and Tikhman is also the husband of Erin Foster, the creator behind Nobody Wants This. The series is loosely based on their love story, so having him involved in what music is featured in the plotline was an easy call: “The fact that we were able to put together a one-of-a-kind soundtrack with incredible artists speaks to the success of the first season. I wanted the music to reflect the same mix of honesty, sharpness, and heart that Erin brings to the story, while also creating a soundtrack that can stand on its own. I’m deeply invested in this project — and, of course, in its creator — which made getting the music right all the more meaningful.” Interscope Records president of A&R Sam Riback added: “Based on the success and acclaim of the first season, this was a really fun soundtrack to put together. So many artists were drawn to the uniquely captivating love story and the role of music in this series. We could not be more proud of the pool of artists we’ve assembled who helped create the musical backdrop for season two.” It’s cool to see country not only getting love, but showcasing some of the genres best talent, and outside of country, huge artists like Selena Gomez, Teddy Swims and Dermot Kennedy are also featured. I’ve actually never watched This Version Of Us, but considering it’s now on my radar thanks to the aforementioned artists, I might have to check it out. “This Version Of Us” is sonically a little bit different than what we’re used to hearing from Langley, but it sounds made-for-TV with a little country twang in the best way, and I’m here for it.
