Shelby Martin looked forward to seeing her baby during her ultrasound on July 29, 2024. It was her 29th birthday, and while the day started with excitement, it ended in devastation. Shelby learned her baby didn’t have a heartbeat. She felt unimaginable heartbreak. “When we were told that there was no longer a heartbeat, my entire world lost color. But at her 36-week pregnancy check-up, she learned the baby was measuring big and a C-section would be a better choice. “Sure, I grieved the loss of my ‘perfect birth plan,’ ” she admitted, “but looking back, I’m just so grateful.” The moment Cassian was born, he shocked his parents and everyone at the hospital. This bouncing bundle of joy weighed in at a whopping 12 lbs. and 13 oz. He’s the biggest baby born in the hospital in more than three years. “We had a heads up that he was going to be big, but I would have never guessed almost 13 pounds,” she told People. “Looking back on bump pictures, I probably should have known.” Shelby Martin said everyone wanted to see her baby boy. And we can understand why. “Everyone was amazed by his size! He made such a big impression that nurses and doctors from all over the hospital came by the NICU just to meet him,” she shares. “He quickly became a little celebrity during his stay.” Wow!
