Country Music Fans Think Ella Langley Was Referencing Megan Moroney When She Changed This Lyric In “Choosin’ Texas”

Here we go again. Country music fans believe that Ella Langley might have thrown some shade at Megan Moroney during a recent concert, but I think this is a reach to keep the love-triangle narrative between Megan, Ella, and Riley Green going. Of course, over the last year or so, I think we’ve all seen the rumors about Ella Langley and her duet partner, Riley Green, who fans have quite literally been obsessed with since they released their hit song “You Look Like You Love Me” last year. Megan Moroney also got pulled into the rumors about a love triangle after she was spotted hanging out with Riley Green, which became a huge story. People are still trying to get to the bottom of it. The theory about Megan and Riley really gained traction after they were first spotted at Riley’s Nashville bar, Duck Blind, and later were seen riding around in Riley’s Chrysler LeBaron convertible in his hometown of Jacksonville, Alabama. The viral TikTok is available to see HERE. And after Ella recently announced her already fan-favorite unreleased song “Choosin’ Texas,” she just shared the album artwork. It looks… strikingly similar to the viral picture of Megan and Riley. The cowboy hat and vintage car are uncanny and very much look like what we see Riley wear these days, and of course, the girl has long blonde hair that should look very familiar to country music fans. I’m sure Ella will never confirm nor deny any of it, but sometimes, you have to take the hint and read between the lines… Take a look at the cover art for yourself and see what you think: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ella Langley (@ellalangleymusic) Say what you want about the album artwork, but any speculation of it pointing to this love triangle was put to bed after the twangy song was released. Fans are in love with “Choosin’ Texas” and have been foaming at the mouth to hear it live. After releasing the single, Langley was touring Texas, which felt very fitting given its timing, and she has since ventured to other Southeastern states. Recently, Langley hit the stage at the famed Georgia Theatre in Athens, Georgia. In honor of being in Georgia territory, Langley had a little fun with the lyrics of “Choosin’ Texas” during the show, changing them to reflect the state she was in. In the song, Langley typically sings the bridge as: “When I’m eastbound and down and I can’t help but cry‘Cause I-40 gets lonelier with every mileI’ll know that his mind wasn’t ever gonna change‘Cause his heart still belongs to the Lone Star State” During the show, she changed the lyrics to reflect a nickname of Athens, Georgia: “When I’m eastbound and down and I can’t help but cry‘Cause I-40 gets lonelier with every mileI’ll know that his mind wasn’t ever gonna change‘Cause his heart still belongs to the Bulldog state” @alyelliejoe @Ella Langley !!!! #ellalangley #choosintexas #dawgs #athensga ♬ original sound – Alyssa Jones Pretty cute, right? We’ve seen country music stars change the lyrics of songs to reflect the town they are playing in, and it never fails to hype up the audience and make them feel special. However, some folks did not see it as a harmless lyric change and thought that she was doing it as a shot at Megan Moroney and Riley Green, given that Megan is a known Georgia native and Bulldogs fan. Later, the same user shared the video of the lyrics swap and posted another showing that Megan Moroney added her video of Ella singing the changed lyrics to her favorites folder on TikTok. It did not take long for social media users to start reading into this. Did Megan like the video because she appreciated the nod to the Dawgs? Did Megan favorite the footage because she saw it as a dig at her? The implication from the user who shared this post was that Megan saved the video, thinking it was a shot at her, and captioned the post: “Alexa, play you’re so vein by Carly Simon.” @alyelliejoe #duet with @Alyssa Jones Alexa, play you’re so vein by Carly Simon. #ellalangley #meganmoroney #rileygreen #choosintexas ♬ original sound – Alyssa Jones Langley must have seen this post because her Instagram story featured “You’re So Vein” by Carly Simon, with a black and red heart above it. Even if Ella Langley and Megan Moroney are not fond of each other, can we please stop pitting these two women against each other? Country music is hard on women, and they have defied the odds to become as big of stars as they are, so let them make music, tour, and create memories with their fans in peace. No matter the intention behind changing the lyrics, it felt like an innocent swap, given she was playing in Athens, Georgia. I am sure that many other artists have done similar lyric swaps in college towns over the years. The post Country Music Fans Think Ella Langley Was Referencing Megan Moroney When She Changed This Lyric In “Choosin’ Texas” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
