The Coca-Cola Company Announced The Return Of A Cult Favorite After 25 Years
The Coca-Cola Company introduced Mr. Pibb in the early 1970s, and fans loved it. With flavor and fizz similar to Dr. Pepper, it was a staple in fridges and on soda fountains for decades. In 2001, the company rebranded Mr. Pibb as Pibb Xtra. Now, nearly 25 years later, Mr. Pibb is back with a new look and 30% more caffeine than Pibb Xtra, according to a news release.

The Coca-Cola Company Is Very Excited About The Return Of Mr. Pibb
The Coca-Cola Company says the “new-stalgic” Mr. Pibb will give longtime fans a taste of what they loved and introduce a new customer base to a unique taste.
“Consumers have been asking for Mr. Pibb’s bold kick of cherry flavor for some time,” Dane Callis, Director, Sparkling Flavors, Coca‑Cola North America said in a news release. “If you go on Reddit, X and other social media, you’ll find conversations about the mystique of Mr. Pibb. Mr. Pibb has a feisty loyal following, so he’s coming back in a bold, fresh way.”
Dane Callis explained that the soda’s identity wasn’t clear when it first launched and hopes this new branding will help.
“When Mr. Pibb first launched, the packaging didn’t tell consumers what it was — it told them what it was not,” Callis said. “Not root beer, not cola. It’s something unique and original, a bold rebel in a category of norms. Nothing fans know and love about Mr. Pibb has gone away, but we took steps to modernize its look for new consumers’ tastes and preferences.
A.P. Chaney, Senior Director of Creative, Sparkling Flavors, Coca‑Cola North America, said the company hired Roy Wood Jr. to do voice work for a new marketing campaign.
“We’re excited to partner with such a phenomenal talent who embodies both our core consumer target — multicultural Xennials — and the brand’s bold, humorous, lighthearted energy,” Chaney said.
The Coca-Cola Company, Mr. Pibb will hit store shelves in Florida, Chicago, Las Vegas, Michigan, and California soon, with a nationwide rollout in 2026.
