49 Winchester Honor The Late, Great Ozzy Osbourne With Cover Of Black Sabbath’s “Changes”
Honoring Ozzy.
The next chapter of 49 Winchester begins NOW. Earlier this week, the Virginia natives announced the massive news that they had signed with MCA Records through their Lucille Records imprint, run by producer extraordinaire Dave Cobb, who is the Chief Creative Officer.
49 Winchester is beyond deserving of this step in their career. They’ve been out on the road for years, building their fanbase the right way with their incredibly electric live shows. No one has put in more work than they have to get to this point, and frontman Isaac Gibson says they’re “thrilled” to be working with Cobb:
“We’re thrilled to be joining the MCA and Lucille family. Working with Dave Cobb is a dream, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear the new music we’re creating together.”

A very exciting chapter to say the least, and thankfully for fans, the next chapter of music came shortly after. Today, the boys released their beloved cover of Black Sabbath’s “Changes.”
Earlier this year, after the tragic passing of the rock and roll legend, many artists paid homage to his music by covering his songs at shows. Although Ozzy’s sound typically doesn’t lean toward country, some artists took up the challenge and put their twangs on some of his songs, like Ian Munsick with his rendition of “No More Tears” and 49 Winchester with “Changes.”

Over the years, the ballad has been released in multiple formats. It first appeared on Vol. 4, which was released in 1972. Two decades later, in 1993, Ozzy Osbourne released a live version as a single from the album Live & Loud. And finally, he released a version in 2003, featuring his daughter, Kelly Osbourne.
Each version is incredible and highlights a much softer side of Black Sabbath’s sound. When the famed rock and roll group recorded the song to achieve an orchestral feel, they used a Mellotron rather than a string ensemble in the studio. When this song was released, some fans worried that the group was going soft, but Ozzy famously reminded them that the Prince of Darkness was not going anywhere and that the heartbreaking ballad was not a shift in the group’s sound.
After 49 Winchester performed their rendition of “Changes” at Beech Mountain Ski Resort’s summer concert series, fans were quickly begging for a studio cut of the tune. 49 Winchester, a band of people, heard our cries and brought it to life. “Changes” was the perfect song choice from the Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne catalog, as the soulful tune can adapt to a wide variety of genres.
49 Winchester put their Appalachian Southern rock twang on the song flawlessly. While making the famed song their own, they still kept the integrity of Black Sabbath’s original recording. Isaac Gibson let it rip in the studio, just like he did in the live performance, blowing listeners away with his powerful yet soulful vocals.
The boys blew this cover out of the park. Turn it up to max volume.
