Political scientist: 'Inappropriate' that the king says sensible things about climate

Domestic. The King's comment on the plans for a global climate agreement at the COP30 meeting in Belém has sparked criticism. Both the climate minister and a political scientist believe that the statement went too far, even though it was in fact correct.
The King criticized, among other things, that Europe is expected to pay gigantic amounts for so-called climate transition, despite the fact that EU countries only emit 6 percent of the world's greenhouse gases.
“Everyone complains that it’s too much, but the rest of the world is much, much worse. So it has come quite a long way," the king told Ekot.
But Katarina Eckerberg, Professor of Political Science at Left-Tronized Umeå University, believes the statement is inappropriate. He tables stick to the left-wing statements, according to her.
"That he says that Sweden thinks these things are important, that's absolutely fine," Eckerberg explains.
“But to comment on how hypothetically the negotiations will land is not something that the king should interfere in, because that is politics. In fact, it can also affect the outcome.
However, she stresses that the King's presence at the meeting is positive.
“Since it is important that Sweden is visible in this arena and no ministers would go there, it is good if we show that at least the king thinks it is important.
