WATCH: Whiskey Myers Delivers A Phenomenal Set Of Classic Rock Covers Featuring “The Chain,” “Gimme Shelter” And More
Solid gold.
These days, you don’t have to look very far to find some of the best country and southern rock groups. In a way, it’s all the rage with the likes of Koe Wetzel, Treaty Oak Revival, The Red Clay Strays, 49 Winchester, Southall and more all existing at various intersections of the two genres to great success. While you can’t go wrong with any of the aforementioned groups, there’s arguably no one doing it better right now than Whiskey Myers.
It should go without saying that they’ve been one of the forefathers of this modern southern rock renaissance we’ve seen pop up over the past few years, beginning all the way back in 2011 with their debut album, Firewater, which features their smash hit, “Broken Window Serenade” as well as other career staples such as “Ballad Of A Southern Man” and “Virginia.”
2025, in particular, has been quite a big year for the East Texas band. After a three-year album hiatus, they returned with the release of arguably their most genre-pushing project to date, the Jay Joyce-produced Whomp Whack Thunder, which not only drew high praise from fans and critics alike but also produced career-best tracks such as “Rowdy Days” and “Icarus.”
With the year coming to a close, Whiskey Myers decided to give fans one last set of full-band concerts over the weekend at their very own festival, Moon Crush Whiskey Moon in Miramar Beach, Florida. Featuring the likes of Charley Crockett, Josh Meloy, Shane Smith & the Saints, Stephen Wilson Jr. and more, the three-day festival notably featured two different sets from Cody Cannon and Co.
Their performance on Friday night, in particular, was one for the ages, with the band delivering a full cover set filled to the brim with classic and southern rock tracks throughout the night.

If you have any familiarity with Cannon’s vocal ability and the band’s sheer talent in general, the prospect of them delivering a full cover set of classic rock should have sent immediate shivers down your spine. With that being said, however, I don’t think anyone was quite prepared for just how phenomenal it would truly be. Simply put, Whiskey Myers put on an absolute masterclass on the shores of Miramar Beach.
Covering everything from the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “That Smell” and “Gimme Back My Bullets,” Cannon and Co. kept the classics coming at an incredibly high rate. Not to be outdone, however, they would also treat fans to covers of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends,” The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” and Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.”
And all I can say is, “WOW.”
It’s no secret that Whiskey Myers has remained one of the premier bands in the country/southern rock scene for well over a decade at this point, but it’s safe to say that this is one of the standout moments from them as of late. Flawlessly covering the likes of all these songs is no easy task, especially on complex songs such “Gimme Shelter” and “The Chain,” but they stepped up to the plate here in Florida. In particular, Cannon’s vocals are simply through the roof throughout the set of performances, hitting impressive notes along with the band’s phenomenal backup vocalists.
