Post Malone Takes Home First-Career CMA Award, “Pour Me A Drink” Featuring Blake Shelton Wins Musical Event of the Year

New hardware for Post. Post Malone has seemingly done it all throughout his career. First beginning on SoundCloud as a rapper, the Texas native scored an incredible amount of success in the genre with smash hits like “White Iverson,” “Congratulations” and “Rockstar.” Throughout his time in hip-hop, he’d score five American Music Awards, 11 Billboard Music Awards, six MTV Music Awards along with an additional 18 Grammy nominations (with five of those coming off the release of F-1 Trillion last year). After receiving four nominations at last year’s CMA Awards for Single, Song, Music Video and Musical Event of the Year, all for his all-genre Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit with Morgan Wallen, “I Had Some Help,” Post was left searching for his first CMA Award heading into this year after “I Had Some Help” was shutout in all four of its categories. Heading into this year at the 59th annual CMA Awards, Post is up for two awards: Album of the Year (F-1 Trillion) and Musical Event of the Year (“Pour Me A Drink” feat. Blake Shelton). While most artists will have to wait until the ceremony is held live at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville tonight at 7 p.m. ET, the CMAs revealed their first two awards early this morning. Just announced, Post Malone and Blake Shelton’s “Pour Me a Drink” took home Musical Event of the Year while Ella Langley and Riley Green’s “you look like you love me” won Music Video of the Year, marking a clean sweep at this year’s ACM and CMA Awards in the music video category. View this post on Instagram “Pour Me A Drink,” which beat out the likes of Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake’s “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” Cody Johnson and Carrier Underwood’s “I’m Gonna Love You,” Megan Moroney and Kenny Chesney’s “You Had to Be There” and Riley Green and Ella Langley’s “Don’t Mind If I Do,” marks Post’s first-ever CMA Award win. As for Shelton, this Musical Event of the Year win pushes his career CMA Award total to 11, allowing him to pass the likes of Willie Nelson and The Chicks for eight-most all time and tie the likes of Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney to seventh-most all time. As for “Pour Me A Drink” itself, the song was nothing short of a success for Post and Shelton. Though it didn’t receive the massive virality that “I Had Some Help Did” (which cannot really be blamed due to the massive star power Morgan Wallen possesses), the still put up huge numbers both online and on the radio. Written by Post himself along with John Byron, Rocky Block, Jordan Dozzi, Charlie Handsome and Louis Bell, the song would go #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, #3 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, #12 on the all-genre Hot 100 and additionally score a #1 on Billboard’s Canadian Country chart. Additionally, “Pour Me A Drink” has racked up over 235 million streams on Spotify alone since its release on June 21, 2024. The rest of this year’s CMA winners will be announced live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville tonight at 7 p.m. CT on ABC. The full list of nominees, with the early winners highlighted in bold, can be found below.
