Two West Virginia National Guardsmen are in critical condition after a gunman opened fire near the White House on the day before Thanksgiving, in an attack that's added fuel to President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown. The suspect in the shooting has been identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who officials say came to the US in 2021 under a program implemented by the Biden administration in the wake of the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan. The suspect was also wounded and taken to the hospital, authorities said.
