Is ‘Die Hard’ a Christmas Movie? Bruce Willis’ Wife Makes the Decision
For generations, people have argued about one particular aspect of Christmas. No, we don’t mean Santa Claus. We aren’t talking about elves. And don’t even get us started on whether or not Rudolph really had help from any of those other reindeer. We want to settle the argument once and for all. Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? The movie’s star, Bruce Willis, shared during a 2018 roast that the movie was not a Christmas movie. But his wife, Emma Hemming Willis, disagrees.
“I think it’s important to put Die Hard on because it’s a Christmas movie,” Emma told People at the End Well 2025 conference in Los Angeles.

Bruce Willis Loved Christmas
Emma explained to People that, prior to his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis, celebrating the holidays was very important to the family.
“Bruce loved Christmas, and we love celebrating it with him,” Emma said. “There is still joy. It just looks different.”
Emma Hemming Willis and Bruce Willis share daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11. Bruce also shares Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31, with his ex-wife, Demi Moore. Together, they’ve created a bit of a miraculous blended family. Many Hollywood relationships can be ugly, but the extended Willis family is a beautiful exception.
Last year, Emma shared an Instagram video decorating her Christmas tree in honor of Bruce Willis and their family. She and her girls did a beautiful job.
“Lol…your girls are growing up so fast!! Hope you had a Merry Christmas! My Mother had dementia and passed away 12-22-23, so it was tough this year, but supporting you in your fight!! It is not easy for the families/caregivers! I had both my Mom and Dad here in my home at one point, both in hospice, and I work!! It takes a village!!” She wrote.
For the record, we’re with Emma. Die Hard will always mean Christmas to us.
