Beverly D’Angelo Chose Kids Over Career at 49 and Has No Regrets
In 1983, the world met the Griswold family, and we’ve never been the same. Chevy Chase played Clark W. Griswold in the National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise. Beverly D’Angelo played his wife, Ellen Griswold. Together, the pair starred in Vacation, European Vacation, Christmas Vacation, and Vegas Vacation. They also had a cameo in the 2015 Vacation remake. Beverly was 31 when Vacation was released and 46 when Vegas Vacation made its big screen debut in 1997. In 2001, Beverley shifted from Hollywood to motherhood at age 49. She and former partner, Al Pacino, welcomed twins Olivia Rose Pacino and Anton James Pacino, and Beverly never looked back.

Becoming a Mom Changed Beverly D’Angelo’s Life
Beverly D’Angelo, now 73, recently told People that choosing to have children later in life changed everything. She joked not to start a parenting journey at 49. She told the news outlet she had no idea Christmas Vacation had become such a part of the holiday season until her kids came home from school talking about it.
“I did not raise my kids in that culture,” she explained of her choice not to stay in Hollywood. “If I would have been more focused, maybe I would have had a bigger career, but I was focused on my kids, to tell you the truth.”
Beverly D’Angelo admitted that being older than many of the other moms made it difficult to connect. She said that when she sees her former Vacation castmates, she feels right at home.
“Seeing Chevy, seeing Randy, seeing Juliette, we have that common thing where we were all together making this movie,” she said.
Nowadays, Beverly enjoys spending time with her kids during the holiday season.
“We’re cooking-oriented,” she said. “We’re always cooking-oriented. I do a prosciutto-wrapped turkey. That’s my big dish, and my son Anton is a big cook, and he’s got all kinds of pasta dishes in his pocket.”
