Kimmel Claims 'Everyone Wants to Choke' GOP in Health Care

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel continued his crusade against Republicans’ health care ideas on his Thursday show by claiming “everyone wants to choke them” for not doing anything about the expiring Biden-era Obamacare subsidies. When Kimmel did finally acknowledge that Republicans do, in fact, have a plan, he compared it to a woman getting a gynecology exam from a Jiffy Lube. Kimmel began by claiming, "It was another day of 'Deal or no health care deal' in Washington today. Guess which one won? After ten years of claiming he's got a plan for health care, the president and his party are suddenly scrambling to come up with something before the subsidies expire next month, and everyone wants to choke them.”     What started out as a temporary COVID-era relief measure, Kimmel now demands be made permanent. As for President Trump and Republicans, “His big idea is to give us all a one-time check for $1,500. He wants Americans to use the $1,500 to find our own healthcare, which is actually possible. For example, ladies, instead of paying hundreds of dollars for an expensive gynecologist, Jiffy Lube, they'll put you up on the lift, they'll give you a 30-point inspection. They'll change your oil, filters. They'll replace any faulty fallopian tubes. You're in and out in a half hour, $50.” That’s not quite right. The $1,000 or $1,500—depending on your age—deposit into a health savings account is for people who purchase a bronze or catastrophic plan under the Obamacare exchanges, and yes, could then be used for routine expenses. Additionally, it is an annual deposit, and the savings would have rolled over from year to year. Ultimately, Kimmel’s concerns are academic because Democrats filibustered the plan on Thursday, but considering it is they who first passed Obamacare and then put an expiration date on the subsidies, perhaps Kimmel should direct his anger leftward.
