Switch came together in Mansfield, Ohio, in December 1976 when Gregory Williams, who had previously performed with White Heat, began assembling a new group that would merge musicianship, songwriting skill, and vocal range into a single unified sound. The lineup brought together Williams, brothers Bobby and Tommy DeBarge from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Phillip Ingram from Akron, Eddie Fluellen, and Jody Sims.
