Foreign. Left-wing protesters in Minneapolis are hesitant about attending meticulous ceremonies for the dead Renee Nicole Good, 37, who was shot dead by an operator from ICE, because she was white.
"It feels wrong somehow, I don't know why," one of them told Daily Wires reporter Brecca Stoll in a clip gone viral on X.
“Part of it is about me being a white woman and that I’m privileged. I have so much privilege. So I feel like white tears aren't always helpful or necessary when black and brown people have experienced this for a long time. This is nothing new for them," she told Stolll.
Good was shot three times in the face in Minneapolis on Wednesday. Grieving has gathered at the scene since then, while demonstrations have been reported in, among others, New York, Portland and Phoenix.
At protests in New York, protesters have been heard to chant "Save a life, kill an ICE" and "Kristi Noem will be hanged," referring to the US minister for home affairs, who had very high tailings in their defense of ICE actions.
The Department of Homeland Security states that additional resources are being passed to Minneapolis and that at least 100 more federal agents should be on the move, according to documents that The New York Times reported to have taken note of.
Homeland Security claims both the shooting in Minneapolis and another shooting in Portland occurred in self-defense, but both local police authorities and federal experts question that picture.
"Their explanation is bullshit," Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey said, who is also urging ICE to leave the city.
The memorial and protest situation at the scene has prompted Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to activate the National Guard, and Minneapolis schools allegedly canceled teaching for the rest of the week to protect students from unrest.
