Wyatt Flores Performs Unreleased Song, “Half The Man,” Live At Cain’s Ballroom
A touching tribute to his family.
As time passes, it looks like we’re getting extremely close to a brand new album from the Oklahoma standout, Wyatt Flores.
After breaking out back in 2023 thanks to the continued success of his 2022 platinum single, “Please Don’t Go,” and other viral hits such as “Losing Sleep” and “Break My Bones,” the 24-year-old singer/songwriter stunned everyone upon the release of his debut album, Welcome To The Plains, last October.
The record, which instantly transported you to Flores’ home in Oklahoma, proved to be one of the year’s best releases. Not only did it build upon the patented Red Dirt-inspired sound that he has been curating throughout his career, but it also contained some of the best songwriting moments of the year on stellar tracks such as the heartbreaking “Oh Susannah,” the brooding “Stillwater,” and the morbid yet hilarious “When I Die.”
A bit surprisingly, 2025 came and went with no new releases from the Oklahoma native. Though he was undoubtedly busy throughout the year, not only headlining his own tour but also supporting 49 Winchester on a lengthy international run, fans everywhere have been begging for some brand new tunes.
While Flores has still not specified when fans can expect new music, during a message he shared with his top Spotify listeners as a part of 2025’s Spotify Wrapped, he dropped big news that he’s done with his next record:
“Well, folks, it’s that time of year again. We’re all wrapping presents up and being around family, and I just want to say thank you for the last year of being on a whole bunch of ‘Welcome To The Plains’ tours. And watching y’all really latch onto that music means a whole lot.
By the time that you probably will get this video, I’ll have the next album done, and I’ve got to say it is nothing like ‘Welcome To The Plains.’ I’m very excited to show off what I’ve been reflecting on over the last year. Hope y’all like it.”
This announcement in December followed multiple different brand new songs that were teased throughout the year live. These new tracks include the likes of the heartbreaking “Way I Do” as well as the thought-provoking anthem touching on veterans’ mental health, “Never Made It Home,” which was performed live at the Opry.
In celebration of the new year, Flores joined the likes of fellow Oklahoma and Red Dirt superstars, Cody Canada (of Cross Canadian Ragweed), Evan Felker (of Turnpike Troubadours), Robert Earl Keen, Cody Braun, BJ Barham (of American Aquarium), Mike McClure and many more at the yearly Hangover Ball at the iconic Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
For Flores, this marked his first appearance at the event, and he did not disappoint. During his six-song set, he’d play aforementioned hits such as “Please Don’t Go” and “Losing Sleep” as well as fan-favorites, “Oh Susannah,” “West of Tulsa” and “Welcome to the Plains.”
The Stillwater native turned heads early in the set when he performed yet another unreleased song that’s expected to be on his new album, “Half the Man.”
In a clip posted to his TikTok account, Flores would upload a brief part of one of the verses that depicts an apology to one of his friends for missing their wedding in favor of chasing his music career, playing to an empty room in LA.
“I know I missed your wedding day
To play an empty room in East LA
And sorrys all I got to say, my friend”
Flores then launches into the biting chorus, taking aim at himself for his shortcomings. Reflecting on the fact that he’s given up being present as a son and a brother while he continues his music career, Flores looks to his parents’ characteristics and hopes to be a little more like them.
“I wanna be half the man as my father stands
Be confident in who I am
If only I could be more like him
I wanna give half the love that my mother does
Make her proud to have a son
But after all I’ve done, I can’t pretend
I’ll never be half as good as they were
And it might look good on paper
So I put my life til later
I know I left as a son and a brother
And I came home as a stranger”
Judging by “Half the Man,” as well as the aforementioned “Way I Do” and “Never Made It Home,” it looks like we’re in for another stunning album from Flores when he finally pulls the trigger on a release. As of now, the album, along with all the unreleased songs, do not have a release date.
