It appears that the Norwegian Nobel Institute will do everything in its power to prevent President Trump from receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. After the news broke, Venezuelan opposition leader María Machado floated the idea of transferring her Nobel Peace Prize to President Trump; however, the Nobel Institute, which is responsible for handing out the prestigious prize, shut down the idea. In a press release, the Nobel Institute stated that Nobel Prize winners are not permitted to transfer their Nobel Peace Prize award once they have accepted it. Fox News provided details on the Norwegian Nobel Institute blocking the transfer of the prize: The organization that oversees the Nobel Peace Prize rejected recent suggestions that Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado could give or share her award with President Donald Trump. The Norwegian Nobel Institute shut down the idea Friday, after Machado suggested that she might transfer the prestigious award to Trump earlier this week. “Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others,” the institute said in a statement. “The decision is final and stands for all time.” The statement comes after Machado floated the idea during an appearance Tuesday on Fox News’ “Hannity.” “Did you at any point offer to give him the Nobel Peace Prize?” Sean Hannity asked. “Did that actually happen?” Machado responded, “Well, it hasn’t happened yet.” “I certainly would love to be able to personally tell him that we believe — the Venezuelan people, because this is a prize of the Venezuelan people — certainly want to give it to him and share it with him,” Machado continued. “What he has done is historic. Share it with him. pic.twitter.com/fIGSbnjshc — Acyn (@Acyn) January 6, 2026 USA Today reported Machado is set to meet with President Trump this month: The Nobel Institute’s stance follows Trump’s announcement during a sit-down interview that aired Jan. 8 on the Fox News show “Hannity” that Machado would be coming to the United States “next week sometime.” During the interview, host Sean Hannity asked Trump if he plans to meet Machado to accept her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize if she gifted it to him. “I understand she’s coming in next week sometime and I look forward to saying hello to her and I’ve heard that she wants to do that. That would be a great honor,” Trump responded. On Jan. 5, Machado, also appearing on Fox News’ “Hannity,” said that presenting her Nobel Peace Prize to Trump would serve as an act of gratitude from the Venezuelan people for removing leader Nicolás Maduro, whom the United States captured on Jan. 3. “Did you at any point offer to give him the Nobel Peace Prize?” Hannity asked. “Did that actually happen?” Machado responded, “Well, it hasn’t happened yet.” The institute’s committee, “as a matter of principle,” said it “will not comment upon what the Peace Prize Laureates may say and do after they have been awarded the prize.”
