President Trump Urges NFL Team To Hire Available Head Coach

President Trump weighed in on the New York Giants’ search for a new head coach. Trump said the franchise should hire John Harbaugh to fill the vacancy. “The New York Football Giants should hire, without question, John Harbaugh – And John, a great guy, should TAKE THE JOB!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. HE, AND HIS BROTHER, ARE TOTAL WINNERS!!! President DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referencing Harbaugh’s younger brother, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh. Trump’s comments come as rumors swirl around Harbaugh potentially joining the Giants for next season as the former Ravens head coach prepares his search. Fox Sports reported Saturday that Harbaugh will be taking the weekend to narrow down his options to just around three to four teams before taking interviews this offseason. ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter discussed the possibility of the Green Bay Packers moving on from current head coach Matt LaFleur after the team’s heartbreaking defeat to the Chicago Bears in the playoffs. “Well, the Packers former president back in the day was a man by the name of Bob Harlan. Bob Harlan’s son, Brian Harlan, represents John Harbaugh. John Harbaugh is a midwestern guy who has a home in the Upper Peninsula,” Schefter said. “A lot of people around the league have been wondering, if the Packers decide to go in a different direction, if all of a sudden, the Green Bay Packers might vault to the top of John Harbaugh’s list as the top available choice for him. This has been a wild, crazy coaching cycle, and we might be just scratching the surface,” he added. The team won six AFC North titles, appeared in four AFC championship games and won a Super Bowl under the 63-year-old. The Ravens finished 8-9 and missed the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion when kicker Tyler Loop’s game-winning field goal attempt sailed wide right. After the disappointing season, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti fired Harbaugh. Harbaugh immediately became the top head coaching candidate on the market and has drawn interest from all teams with a vacancy, according to multiple reports. The Giants have the second-worst record in the NFL over the last 10 seasons, ahead of only the New York Jets, at 55-109-1. The Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll midseason after blowing a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to the Chicago Bears, a game in which rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart sustained a concussion, dropping them to 2-8. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka was named interim coach and went 2-5 in his seven games. Daboll was in his fourth season and amassed a 20-40-1 record. He was named NFL Coach of the Year in his first season after leading the Giants to a 9-7-1 record and a playoff berth, but the team’s record worsened in every season.
