GOP Congressman Announces Retirement

Rep. Neal Dunn (R-FL) announced he will not seek re-election after serving five terms in Congress. “After much prayerful consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election to the United States House of Representatives. This will conclude my service after five meaningful terms representing the people of Florida’s Second Congressional District,” the 72-year-old said in a statement. “The time has come to pass the torch to new conservative leaders, return home to Panama City, and spend more precious time with my family and our beloved grandchildren,” he added. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) vacated her seat in the middle of the term last week. Dunn was first elected in 2016 and has comfortably won reelection in the Panhandle-based 2nd Congressional District four times since. He earned more than 61 percent of the vote in 2024, when about 59 percent of the district voted for President Trump. The Floridian joins more than two dozen GOP lawmakers in the lower chamber who will not seek reelection, including Reps. Jodey Arrington (R-Texas), Wesley Hunt (R-Texas), Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa), David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) and Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.). Ahead of a crucial midterm election cycle, Trump says he fully expects to be impeached if Democrats regain the House amid growing vacancies. “You gotta win the midterms. Because if we don’t win the midterms, they’ll find a reason to impeach me. I’ll get impeached,” Trump said. Check it out: Trump: "You gotta win the midterms. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., is running for governor of South Carolina, while Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., is seeking the governorship in California. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, is running for Texas attorney general, and Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, is mounting a Senate bid in Texas, challenging incumbent Sen. John Cornyn. Republicans currently hold a slim majority in the House after former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., resigned in January and Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Calif., died the same week. The special election to fill Greene’s seat is scheduled for March 10.
