“I Don’t Care If Anybody Listens To It”: Ashton Kutcher Reveals His Latest Obsession Is Writing A Full Country Album

Kelso going country. In this day and age, it might just be easier to clarify who isn’t switching over to the country genre. Artists from all different walks of the music industry have traded in their regular form of music making to try their hand at country music. Post Malone, Beyoncé, and Lana Del Ray are probably the most famous names… and you can throw former Beatles member Ringo Starr in there too. Then there’s a laundry list of non-musicians who have ventured into the realm of country in the past couple of years. NBA star Jimmy Butler says he’s got over 200 country songs in the bag and ready to go, and another former NBA player, Meyers Leonard, announced his retirement from the sport with an original country song. Needless to say, everyone apparently wants a slice of the country music pie in the 2020s. That trend continues with actor and producer Ashton Kutcher (who many probably know from That 70s Show or The Ranch) also announcing that he’s got some country music in the works. At the premiere of his new show, The Beauty (which kind of seems like a ripoff of the 2024 film The Substance, but that’s besides the point), Kutcher was asked by Good Morning America if he had a healthy obsession. Kutcher responded with a surprising revelation: “I don’t know if this is healthy or not. It might not be healthy. I decided I’m going to write a country music album… I love it, but I’m not a very good singer.” Hey… having a bad voice has never stopped plenty of artists in the genre, am I right? Ashton Kutcher says that, despite not being vocally gifted, he’s going to give it a shot, even if it’s just so that he can say that he did: “I’m going to do it anyway just because I want to write an album. I don’t care if anybody listens to it and they probably won’t and I’m okay with it, but I’ve just always wanted to write a country music album. So I’m obsessed with getting that done.” @gma An Ashton Kutcher country album? Yeah, sign us up! @FX’s The Beauty ♬ original sound – Good Morning America I’m not sure what else I can say other than… that’s very interesting. Especially considering Ashton Kutcher’s memorable country music crossover at the CMAs over a decade ago. Back in 2012, the Iowa native found himself at the center of some controversy after he came out looking like a caricature of a country artist and absolutely butchered the George Strait classic “I Cross My Heart.” If you don’t remember the cringeworthy moment, take a look: Much of the controversy from that was other country music stars assuming that Kutcher was just making fun of the country genre. But if he’s now saying that he’s attempting to make a country record, and he’s admitting on the front end that he doesn’t have a good voice… maybe that viral moment from 2012 isn’t all that cringey armed with hindsight? The post “I Don’t Care If Anybody Listens To It”: Ashton Kutcher Reveals His Latest Obsession Is Writing A Full Country Album first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
