V: US could attack Denmark from its new Swedish bases

Domestic. The Left Party is demanding that Sweden terminate the defense agreement with the United States after Donald Trump's outburst of Greenland. The party warns that the US military in Sweden in a sharp situation could be used against both Denmark and Greenland.


The background is the so-called DCA agreement that gives the United States access to 17 Swedish military facilities. After Trump's recurring statements about Greenland, the Left Party believes the risks have now become apparent.

"We have warned that this situation could arise," the party's foreign policy spokesperson Håkan Svenneling told Expressen.

The party points out that Donald Trump previously did not want to rule out military action against Greenland. Although during his Davos speech, the president said he renounces violence, Svenneling believes that it is not possible to trust what the president says.

According to Håkan Svenneling, the DCA agreement could in a worst-case scenario mean that the United States uses Swedish bases to put pressure on Denmark.

“If there is a U.S. military in Sweden, they are under the U.S. commander, and the commander-in-chief is Donald Trump.
