Chopped Cheese Sliders

Chopped Cheese Sliders made with seasoned beef, melty cheddar, fluffy rolls, and tons of toppings. Easy to make for dinner or game day! SLIDERS IN 25-MINUTES Ever heard of a chopped cheese? They’re pretty popular in New York City which is where I had my first one. These sliders are inspired by those popular bodega sandwiches. Sliders are great for so many reasons. They’re wonderful to serve on game days, for family dinners, and at parties! Plus, they’re super easy to customize to your tastes! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:  Why are they called chopped cheese? Because instead of making a burger patty, the meat is “chopped” up (along with the toppings used.) Can I make these sliders ahead of time? Yes, you can make the beef mixture the day before and assemble it before serving. What else can I add to these sliders? You can add mayonnaise, pickles, and bacon to the sliders. Really, any slider toppings you typically enjoy would work nicely. What to serve with Chopped Cheese Sliders? These sliders are good to serve with the usual burger sides: potato chips, French Fries, tater tots, etc. You can always toss together a bagged salad or your favorite vegetable side dish too. How do I store leftover sliders? To me, these are best right when you make them. Enjoy the sliders immediately, so the lettuce and tomatoes are crisp and fresh unless you add those on later. If you need to keep leftovers, I suppose you can. You can keep them in the fridge for up to 4 days. INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE) lean ground beef – I like to use a lean ground beef for less grease but use what you have. yellow onion – don’t like onion? Just leave it out! salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder – My standard go-to seasoning but you could also use a burger seasoning that you prefer. garlic cloves – You can use jarred garlic or fresh or omit it, but it adds a lot of flavor. cheddar cheese – You can use any cheese you like, but cheddar is my favorite with the ground beef. Other options you can use are Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, or even Mozzarella Cheese.  King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls – You can use any brand of sweet rolls. butter – you can use salted or unsalted butter. sesame seeds – This can be omitted, but they do add a little hamburger-bun look. lettuce and tomato– These really are the ultimate burger toppings but use what you prefer. burger sauce – You can use any burger sauce for the sliders. You don’t have to use the burger sauce if it isn’t your thing. It will still taste good. You can find it at most grocery stores now or you can make it homemade. I have a recipe for it in my Big Mac Sliders recipe. Also, see my ingredient image below. HOW TO MAKE CHOPPED CHEESE SLIDERS: To a large skillet, add the beef, onion, and seasonings over medium heat. Cook and crumble ground beef until no longer pink. Drain any excess grease and put beef back into the skillet. To the skillet add 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese and minced garlic. Stir until combined. Turn off the burner. Slice the rolls in half long ways so you have a top and a bottom. Place the bottom of the rolls on a parchment paper-lined 9×13 baking sheet or dish. To the bottom of the rolls, add the beef mixture. Top the beef with the remaining cheese. Set aside. Place the tops of the rolls back into the package tray the rolls came in (it is oven safe). Coat the tops of the rolls with the butter and sesame seeds. Bake both on the middle oven rack for about 5 minutes or until the cheese has melted. Remove from the oven, then cover the meat mixture with burger sauce, lettuce, and tomatoes. Place the tops onto the sliders. Serve and enjoy immediately.
