The news is exciting on multiple fronts: Wheaton, who is arguably best known for playing Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation, also played the young Gordie Lachance in the 1986 film Stand By Me, which is based on The Body. Both works center on a group of boys who go out to find a dead body in the woods, and both are widely considered to be among King’s best stories and adapted works. King shared a one-minute video of Wheaton announcing the news. In it, Wheaton said that he has been trying “to get permission to narrate [The Body] for literal years. It has been such an incredible journey to get here, and it happened at exactly the right time.” Listen to the story that shaped a generation. Decades after starring in Stand By Me, the film adaptation of THE BODY, Wil Wheaton lends his voice to an all new recording of the audiobook.
