6 U.S. Cities Will Host 2028 Olympic Soccer Games

We’re just days away from the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. For 16 days, all eyes will be on the ice, snow, and tracks. Even though the events haven’t started yet, the Olympic Committee already has plans underway for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The games may only happen every four years. But planning is tremendous and begins years in advance. One of the most anticipated events for the summer games is soccer. It’s played all over the world, and athletes take it very seriously. The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games announced the six cities that will hold soccer matches. For LA28, some events, such as soccer, will be spread across larger cities. According to Fox 17, Los Angeles, New York, Columbus, St. Louis, San Jose, and San Diego will all host soccer matches. “Bringing Olympic Football group stage and knockout matches to stadiums across the United States means more fans will witness this global event and experience the Olympic spirit firsthand,” Shana Ferguson, LA28 Chief of Sport and Games Delivery Officer, said. LA28 reportedly collaborated with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), the commercial arm of Major League Soccer (MLS), to determine which stadiums would best serve as host sites. “Letssss gooo!! This is gonna be EPIC!!!” A soccer fan shared on X. “Why would you do this? Why wouldn’t you keep LA28 in LA? You’ve already given up half the games to Inglewood, Long Beach, and [checks notes] Oklahoma City,” another person questions. “Everyone, relax. This is common. Brazil, China, London, France, etc., all had them around their countries,” someone noted. This story’s featured image is by Julian Finney/Getty Images.
