85 Years Ago—Feb. 4, 1941: The USO (United Service Organizations) is established to provide services, social clubs, and entertainment for US troops, entirely run and funded by civilians.
Three Norwegians are sentenced to death for spying, the first death sentences during the German occupation of Norway.
Program for Procurement of Dried Plasma for the Armed Forces is established by the American Red Cross at Presbyterian Hospital, New York City, under Dr. Charles Drew, due to the success of the Plasma for Britain program—this is the start of the Red Cross’s Blood Donor Services.
