There’s Only One Person Who Could Unite The Entire World On The Super Bowl Halftime Stage… But She’s Turned It Down Multiple Times
This might be the one thing that could actually bring the country together. With Super Bowl LX coming up this Sunday, there’s been a ton of controversy around halftime performer Bad Bunny. The Puerto Rican rapper has been very outspoken about ICE, which has made many conservative football fans upset, and there is even an alternate Super Bowl halftime performance this year being headlined by Kid Rock for those who don’t want to watch Bad Bunny on the world’s biggest stage.
I am still of the belief that we need a country music super bowl halftime show because it’s well overdue, and has never been more popular than it is right now. And while one particular country icon just turned 80-years old last month, Dolly Parton is still just as ageless as ever. But it’s honestly pretty shocking that someone as iconic as her has never played the Super Bowl.
In 2023, she revealed to the The Hollywood Reporter that she has actually been offered it “many times,” but she always turned it down because she didn’t think she was “big enough to do it”:
“Oh, sure. I’ve been offered that many times, I couldn’t do it because of other things, or I just didn’t think I was big enough to do it — to do that big of a production.
When you think about those shows, those are big, big productions. I’ve never done anything with that big of a production. I don’t know if I could have. I think at the time that’s what I was thinking.”
It’s true, the Super Bowl halftime show has become the biggest stage in the world in terms of true viewing eyeballs, one that most artists dream of playing, but to think that Dolly Parton didn’t think she could pull off such a production is pretty wild. The woman is known for her over-the-top looks, huge personality and larger-than-life persona, and I actually couldn’t think of anyone more perfect for this kind of thing… I mean, she stunned the world just a few years ago when the did the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving halftime show, and I think even now she could do something spectacular, even if she isn’t still at the peak of her career from a musical standpoint.
Considering how controversial Bad Bunny has been as a halftime selection, because everything is political these days, there really is only one person who could unite as all on Super Bowl Sunday, and of course, it’s none other than Mrs. Dolly herself. I can only imagine what she would’ve done with a show like that back in the ’70s or ’80s, but even today, Dolly Parton is a fan favorite across all sides of the political spectrum. And even if she wouldn’t headline it now (and she definitely should), if we ever get another country artist to headline it again, she better be on that stage. At the Grammys recently, Jelly Roll called for a country music halftime show at Nashville’s new Nissan Stadium in the next few years, and he specifically mentioned Dolly as someone who needed to be included.
To be honest, there’s not many artists left who wouldn’t be seen as a political choice one way or the other, but tell me something like this wouldn’t go down in history…
