Fathom Entertainment, the company that recently brought The Lord of the Rings trilogy back to theaters, has a roster of twelve additional movies that it’s bringing back to the big screen this year.
The movies are part of Fathom’s Big Screen Classics series, and the films were first released sometime between 1941 and 2001. There are a few genre films on the list, and a lot of just plain great movies. Here’s the full list:
Ben-Hur (March 29, April 1, 2)
The Silence of the Lambs (April 26, 29)
Fried Green Tomatoes (May 10, 13)
The Birdcage (June 7, 10)
Ocean’s Eleven (June 21, 24)
Citizen Kane (July 5, 8)
The Fifth Element (July 26, 27)
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (August 2, 5)
Gone with the Wind (October 10, 11, 12, 13, 14)
A Beautiful Mind (November 22, 23)
The Maltese Falcon (December 6, 9)
It’s a Wonderful Life (December 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26)
Each film will have a presentation by Leonard Maltin at the beginning, where the historian and critic provides context as to what the movie means and why it has endured. If Maltin’s presentations are anything like Peter Jackson’s delightful albeit, rambling intros to Fathom’s The Lord of the Rings re-release, then we’re in good hands.
Tickets are now on sale! Head to Fathom Entertainment’s website to see if the movies are playing somewhere near you. [end-mark]
