‘American Idol’ Contestant Bella Emry Delivers Hauntingly Beautiful Rendition Of Morgan Wallen’s “I’m A Little Crazy”

This song was made for an acoustic accompaniment. Last night on American Idol, 22-year-old Bella Emry from Bend, Oregon walked into the room to sing a country song that most fans will be very familiar with. She delivered a striking, almost haunting rendition of Morgan Wallen’s “I’m A Little Crazy,” which was written by Hardy, Smith Ahnquist, Hunter Phelps and Jameson Rodgers. It finds him reflecting on the state of the world and how he keeps a “loaded .44 by the bed” even though he hopes he never has to use it. It was included on his massive I’m The Problem album, and in my personal opinion, was the best and most meaningful song on the massive 37-song tracklist. There’s so much truth in it, and I love Morgan’s delivery, and it was definitely one of the more “country” songs on the record because of the brilliant lyricism and more simple production. Bella explained that she currently works as a waitress and also an office admin at her parents company, a concrete restoration business. Of course, her dreams are much bigger than that: “No shade to my parents, but I’d much rather be singing. I would love to make in my life. I’ve been watching Idol since I was a little kid. Now I’m doing it. I am the most nervous I think I have ever been in my whole life. Singing is second nature to me, but I do not perform for people. So this could be life-changing.” It’s shocking to hear that she doesn’t perform in front of people because of not only how incredible her voice is, but how natural she seemed to be sitting in front of three of the world’s most famous musicians. Carrie seemed pretty shocked, too: “That was great. I’m surprised to hear you say that you don’t perform…You seemed very comfortable just telling a story. Nobody was breathing when you were singing. Well done. I wasn’t expecting you to be able to really hold our attention like that. I mean, you didn’t hit a bad note. You held the guitar together really, really well, and you delivered that song in your own way.” Lionel Richie told Bella that they’ve been waiting on a contestant like her, and of course gave her a “yes”: “Idol University has been waiting on you. You are scholarship material, my dear. All I can say is, you’re going to hold that one time around. Let’s see some more. It’s a yes for me.” The other judges did too, and Bella was elated to learn that she’s going to Hollywood week, which is actually going to be held in Nashville this year: “I’m sure it will get even harder, but I feel a little bit more like, I can do this. This is an actual possibility for me.” American Idol airs on Monday nights at on ABC, and while I can’t say I’ve sat down and watched every episode, I have seen some of the auditions on social media and I always enjoy watching the artists who do country songs. This is easily the best one I’ve seen, and I think Bella did an outstanding job and I can’t get enough of how she made it her own.
