Family and Friends Learn ASL to Sign for 1-Year-Old Baby Boy’s Birthday

When Kelsey Boone began posting on Instagram, she was sharing content about teaching and how she kept her classroom fun and engaging. A few years into her journey, she became pregnant with her son, Boston. After his birth, the family received a surprise diagnosis. Boston has Coffin-Siris Syndrome, which comes with a myriad of challenges, and in his case, total hearing loss. Kelsey quit her classroom job to become a full-time medical needs mom to her son. As his first birthday approached, her family and friends did something incredible for baby Boston. When it was time to sing at his party, the entire room used ASL to sign and sing Happy Birthday to Boston. It was the most touching thing to watch the sweet little boy take in all the special attention. “Our people are truly one of a kind and I’ll never be over this core memory,” Kelsey shared on Instagram. Parents of special needs children loved seeing Boston receiving so much support. “The year we learned about my son’s sensory struggles, we asked everyone to whisper during the singing part ( in past birthdays he would scream and go crazy because of the sound waves of voices) and watching everyone sing quietly without a question was the most loving thing I could experience as a parent,” a mom wrote. “Boston hit the jackpot with you as his mom, and this as his village,” another person wrote. Seeing everyone use ASL to wish Boston a happy birthday gave this parent all the feels. “This is so beautiful,” they wrote. “My son who we lost to meningitis was likely to be deaf if he survived and my husband said “you know everyone who loves him will learn sign language” and this was what I envisioned. Boston is so SO loved.” This story’s featured image can be found here.
