Willie Nelson & Emmylou Harris Team Up With Lowell George’s Daughter, Inara, For Beautiful Rendition Of Little Feat’s “Willin'”

A powerhouse collaboration for a music legend. Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris are part of the new tribute album Rock And Roll Doctor: Lowell George Tribute Album in honor of the late Lowell George, frontman of Little Feat, releasing a previously unheard version of his signature song “Willin'” that also features his daughter, Inara George. Of course, the song was written by Lowell George and first recorded and released by Johnny Darrell on his 1970 album California Stop-Over, but it was later recorded by Little Feat on their January 1971 debut album, and has become a standard covered by many other artists in the decades following. This version with Nelson, Harris and George finds Willie taking the lead vocals, and Inara called it a “gift” to celebrate her father’s work “alongside his musical peers”: “I remember how meaningful it was to sing ‘Trouble’ with Van Dyke Parks and Ry Cooder – they were both friends of my dad, which made it even more special. So to be able to add voice, so many years later, to a track with such greats as Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson feels like a perfect bookend. It’s such a gift to celebrate my father’s work alongside his musical peers.” Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris are reminding listeners that they’re willin’ to shake the dust off a classic and pay tribute to woefully underrated and exceptionally gifted Little Feat kingpin, the late Lowell George. Today, the pair have unveiled their previously unissued cover of the honoree’s trademark, “Willin’.” The track is a feature of Rock And Roll Doctor: Lowell George Tribute Album, a two-disc collection, available on vinyl for the first time on April 18 for Record Store Day, with a CD and digital release slated for April 24. The vinyl version of this project will be available first as a 2 LP set on vinyl and released digitally on April 24th. Rock And Roll Doctor: Lowell George Tribute Album will include 15 performances, including legendary artists like Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Little Feat, Randy Newman and more. Of course, Willie and Emmylou are two of the absolute best, and they did a wonderful job with this rendition, and it’s incredibly cool that they got to sing such a classic with George’s daughter, Inara. I’m sure it’s something all three of them will cherish forever, and you can listen to their version of “Willin'” here: “Willin'” Rock And Roll Doctor: Lowell George Tribute Album Tracklist Cold, Cold, Cold – Bonnie Raitt and Little Feat Feets Don’t Fail Me Now – Taj Mahal Roll Um Easy – JD Souther Rocket In My Pocket – The Bottle Rockets and David Lindley Sailin’ Shoes – Randy Newman and Valerie Carter I’ve Been The One – Jackson Browne Two Trains – Allen Toussaint and Leo Nocentelli Long Distance Love – Keisuke Kuwata Rock And Roll Doctor – Eddie Money and Buddaheads Straight From The Heart – Chris Hillman and Jennifer Warnes Honest Man – Little Feat Spanish Moon – Phil Perry, Merry Clayton and Ricky Lawson Willin’ – Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris featuring Inara George Trouble – Inara George Rock And Roll Heaven (Spoken Excerpt) – Lowell George “Willin'” The post Willie Nelson & Emmylou Harris Team Up With Lowell George’s Daughter, Inara, For Beautiful Rendition Of Little Feat’s “Willin'” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
