“Every Time I Hugged Somebody… I Wanted To Scream”: Jelly Roll Broke His Collarbone In ATV Accident Shortly Before The Grammys
Jelly Roll had himself an UTV accident and somehow managed to keep it under wraps for over a month.
The rapper-turned-country-artist whose real name is Jason DeFord has secretly been recovering from a broken collarbone for over a month, and he and his wife – Bunnie XO – just shared that news on social media over the weekend. According to the “Need A Favor” singer, he was riding his Can-Am Maverick R XRS UTV shortly before he was set to go to the Grammys, and he flipped it.
Jelly Roll thought he had totaled his off-road vehicle when it happened, but that wasn’t the worst part of the accident. Following the crash, Jelly Roll went to the hospital and discovered that he had broken his collarbone. Obviously, the main concern was for the country star to get his broken bone back to 100% as quickly as possible.
The side concern? Just getting his injury under control enough so that he could still attend the 2026 Grammy Awards.
According to both Jelly Roll and his wife, the crash and subsequent collar-bone-breaking occurred in the days leading up to the awards show where the 41-year-old was nominated in three different categories (Best Country Duo/Group Performance, Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song, and Best Contemporary Country Album).
Though Jelly Roll did end up making it to the Grammys, and won in all three of those categories, he was evidently in a lot of pain while he was there:
“I was just thinking, I was out there running all over the Grammys with a broken collarbone. Every time I hugged somebody that week, I wanted to scream. I just didn’t say it, but every time somebody squeezed me, dude, I thought I was gonna cry.”
You wouldn’t have ever been able to tell that Jelly Roll was going through that with how he carried himself at the Grammys.
Those three Grammys (the first of his career) were huge wins for the “I Am Not Okay” singer, but what ended up arguably being the biggest win following his UTV wreck was the fact that he decided to get back behind the wheel of the off-road vehicle around a month after his accident:
“I was so scared to get back on this thing. I just knew if I didn’t get back on it sooner than later, I was just going to be more and more afraid of it.”

Sheesh… that’s a nasty bone break.
Jelly’s wife, Bunnie XO, also shared some footage and content from the UTV wreck. Her video that was posted close to the same time as Jelly Roll’s showed the Grammy-winner in a hospital bed… still trying to look tough while sporting a neck brace:
“When your hubby snaps his collarbone in half after flipping an ATV and thinks he’s so tough with his neck brace on.”

All in all, I’m just glad Jelly Roll was okay, and based upon Bunnie XO’s caption, it appears that he’s already made a full recovery from the injury.
It’s crazy to think that just a couple of days after that video above was taken, Jelly Roll gave this fiery, Jesus-praising acceptance speech when he won “Best Contemporary Country Album” for Beautifully Broken. Ironic that he was dealing with a broken collarbone as his Beautifully Broken project took home a Grammy award, eh?
