JUST IN: Judge Rules On Cameras In The Courtroom For Alleged Charlie Kirk Killer
The man accused of murdering Charlie Kirk won’t be getting the closed-door secrecy his defense team wanted. A Utah judge ruled Friday that cameras will be allowed in the courtroom — and the American public is going to see every minute of this trial.
Fourth Judicial District Court Judge Tony Graf Jr. made the call: cameras, microphones, and photographers will all be permitted at the April 17 hearing for Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged with capital murder in Kirk’s assassination. That hearing will also decide whether full media access continues through the rest of the pretrial proceedings. Robinson’s lawyers fought to keep cameras out. They lost.
From KUTV:
In balance, the defendant has not provided a sufficient basis for the court to find that the interests favoring closure outweigh the interest favoring an open proceeding and the presumptive right to access.

Judge Graf did leave the door open for closing specific portions of the April 17 hearing if privacy or safety issues come up. The defense has until March 30, 2026 to file a redacted version of their motion to exclude cameras — but the baseline is now set. The courtroom is open.
The judge grounded his ruling in solid legal precedent, citing the 1981 Supreme Court case Chandler v. Florida, which established that cameras in the courtroom don’t inherently violate a defendant’s right to a fair trial. The defense argument that media coverage would poison the jury pool? Graf wasn’t buying it. Public access wins.

From Trending Politics News:
Tyler Robinson faces capital murder charges for the September 10, 2025, assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, citing the premeditated nature of the attack.
The case has moved through the courts in Provo with a series of pretrial hearings on evidence and procedure. Judge Graf previously allowed Robinson to wear civilian clothes instead of prison garb during court appearances — a standard accommodation. But the camera ruling is the one that matters, and it went the right way.

Charlie Kirk built Turning Point USA from nothing into one of the most important conservative organizations in America. He got young people engaged in politics at a time when every institution from universities to social media companies was trying to silence the right. His murder on that Utah campus was an attack on the entire conservative movement.
Now the trial of the man accused of killing him will play out in full public view. No sealed courtrooms. No hidden proceedings. Every American who wants to watch this case unfold will be able to do exactly that when proceedings resume April 17.
