Ella Langley Debuts New Song, “Something Simple,” At SXSW

Ella Langley has been an unstoppable woman these days. She’s riding a high that many artists only dream of reaching, as her single “Choosin’ Texas” has become her biggest hit to date. In case you are not aware of the success the catchy ditty has achieved, let us do a quick recap. Upon its release on October 7th, the track debuted at #37 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, also launching all the way to #7 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, both of which were career-highs for the “hungover” singer. Flashforward to December 2nd, it became Langley’s first career #1 hit on the aforementioned Hot Country Songs chart. In turn, it became the fastest solo female song to reach the top 10 at US Country Radio this decade, taking just eight weeks to crack the Top 10. Thanks to an incredible amount of online buzz and a last-minute push from fans, on Monday, February 9th, she went #1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 with the monster track. Additionally, she became the first woman ever to triple up and score #1s on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs, Country Airplay, and Hot 100 chart simultaneously. In case you were wondering just how rare the feat was, Langley became just the seventh female artist IN HISTORY to go #1 on the Hot 100 with a country song. When you thought Langley was done making chart history, think again. With “Choosin’ Texas” still holding strong at #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, it was joined by her other red-hot single, “Be Her,” which rose from #3 to #2 this frame. In turn, the Alabama native is now the third female artist in the history of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart to occupy the top two spots, joining the likes of only Taylor Swift (“Red” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” in Oct. 2012) and Beyoncé (“Texas Hold ‘Em” and “II Most Wanted” in April 2024). Now, Langley is previewing what might be her next chart-topping single. This weekend, Langley took the stage in Austin, Texas for Spotify’s Top 20 event during South by Southwest. With Langley’s forthcoming record, Dandelion, less than a month away from being released, she’s giving fans a taste of some more songs that will (presumably) appear on the tracklist. While she has not revealed the tracklist to fans, she shared with the crowd an unreleased tune titled “Something Simple.” Langley admitted to the crowd that she and her band had not rehearsed the tune, but she felt called to play it that night, and did just that. The introspective tune highlights the feeling of making it big and having all her dreams come true in her music career, but deep down, Langley still longs for a slow, simple life like the one she grew up in Alabama. Can take the girl out of the country but not the country out of the girl, am I right? “Got what I wanted But what if I wanna  House on a hill, a horse in the yard A dog at my feet, just picking my guitar The sun going down, supper’s on the stove A hard-working man, taking off his dirty work clothes Well, I’m living the dream but what I’ve been dreaming about  Is slowing down just a little When I lay there and close my eyes I’m lookin’ for something simple…”  “Something Simple “really embodies that feeling of childhood memories and nostalgia that she said this record’s a love letter to. I think that this is a message anyone successful can relate to. While you might be giving up different things, if you are chasing a dream, there will always be sacrifices to make. I can’t wait to hear the studio version of this one.
